Have you ever watched The Antique Roadshow? One day when i was watching it i saw a lady showing off some old raggedy teddy bears. I was thinking that this woman had lost it. The teddy bears were old and real grubby looking. I was starting to felt sorry for her. My sorrow was short lived as i quickly learned that these were antique teddy bears from the Steiff Company, and could potentially be worth a small fortune. I was shocked, but intrigued. I don’t remember the actual worth but it was high. If these bears are kept in excellent condition they're worth even more.
In reality, most antique teddy bears aren’t worth much in monetary value. They're worth a whole lot more in terms of sentimental value. A little scruffy teddy bear with small tears and patches can bring back many priceless memories. Just looking at one can be enough to bring tears to the eyes. Teddy bears originally were meant to be played with and not stored on a shelf. Teddy bears are for cuddling and playing and making yourself feel good. Mess them up and throw them in the washing machine when necessary.
If you have an old teddy bear you are willing to sell, you can always sell it at an antique store. Lots of antique stores take items on consignment. If it's 50 years old and still in its original box, the teddy bear could be worth a nice sum. At antique dealers it's a great option to specify the item for consignment. That way you can set the selling price without selling the teddy bear for less than you want.
If you don't want to sell the antique teddy bear, you can always display the teddy bear in a prominent place in your home. If your house has a country style decor, an antique teddy bear will fit right in. You could also give the teddy bear to a special grandchild. Even if they are too young to appreciate it, it will add a huge touch of cuteness to the room.
You can find some antique teddy bears that were made from real fur. This is a sore point for some people, as many nowadays do not approve of animal fur being used in toys or anything else. If you have a bear like this to sell, you might have some resistance. But, if no one minds the animal fur aspect, you might be able to sell it or give it away if you don’t want it any more.

However, as the years go by, these lovely bears are becoming rarer and harder to find. Your only chance would be to find someone clering out an old estate who had no sentimental connection or no idea what an antique Steiff teddy bear is worth. Forgetting the financial benefits aside, let's not forget what antique teddy bears were made for. Antique teddy bears were made as a child’s toy. And what joy they have brought to many a child, with strong emotions being attached to them, throughout adulthood. Whether they are worth a mint or not, it's plain to see teddy bears are still great toys.
